SONG #41 - Petra - Beat The System

Now this song goes WAY back in my life. Some how my brother and I got ahold of the "Beat the System" cassette from Petra..I think maybe it was getting removed from our church library                  Or something like that, but I will never forget getting BLOWN AWAY by this album. The guitars, synths, and lyrics were all AWESOME.. and they were singing about JESUS! Who knew that it would be so cool

This particular song was my favorite, but it represents the entire album.. Voice in the Wind/Hollow Eyes/It Is Finished were all songs I played back CONSTANTLY. Witch Hunt freaked me out, and Computer Brains was another hauntingly interesting song. Again, i spent SO much time in my room listening to music, and I know that for a significant amount of time I was listening to this album!! As far as this song in particular, there are so many incredible elements. The phone dial and the opening hook/initial chants of "Beat the System" were haunting to me as a kid.  The chorus "Wise-Up / Rise Up" bridge, and the shout of "NO!" after "never face defeat!" were so cool, not to mention the synth breakdown near the end of the song. SO many memorable moments in this song!! And by the way.. Greg X Volz > John Schlitt ANY day [sorry John! :)].
