SONG #40 - Five Iron Frenzy - Every New Day

INDUCTED: 8-26-2015

You know I could have latched onto a concept in which I picked songs from the mainstream that I believe are worthy of the Hall of Fame and inducted them... I don't know if the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducts songs in addition to artists, but I definitely think there's a need for something like that. However this is not the place for that. As you can tell a lot of these songs that are in my Hall of Fame are not very popular in the mainstream at all, and in fact you may have never heard of some of the band or the song. But I'm completely fine writing this and doing this all for myself. It allows me to practice articulating my thoughts, and in a way it's a type of journal for me. With that all said, this album by 5 Iron Frenzy came out in 1998, and I believe I got the CD right when it came out. So I was listening to this the end of my senior year in high school and the beginning of my freshman year in college. The song Every New day really put a capstone on my high school career as I thought through the challenges that I had and even some of the joys that I had in high school. I believe in some sense I was constantly fighting kind of mild depression and this song was something I believe gave me a little bit of hope and perspective. I'm not sure if musicians would label this as straight out ska, as Five Iron Frenzy was a bit more diversified than some of the other Christian ska groups. Although this is one of their more serious songs, you can really tell that they had a lot of fun as a band. And I really appreciated this particular song.
